Eleanor Jeanette Buono Obituary
July 17, 1931 - December 25, 2018 We say goodbye and celebrate the life of our beautiful and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend Eleanor Jeanette Buono. Eleanor was born in Westport, Connecticut on July 17, 1931, to Caroline and Placido Anastasia, and passed away peacefully in Las Vegas on December 25, 2018. She is preceded in death by her son Steven and her husband Louis. "Ellie" is survived by her other children, Marie Rosenberg, Philip (Ruth), Claire, Gary, Nicholas, and Brian (Patti), as well as her grandchildren, Nichele, Andrew, Shirley, Steven, Robert, and great-grandchildren, Adam and Jade. Eleanor grew up in Westport with her 11 siblings where she eventually met and fell in love with Louis Buono. They married and started a family of their own that grew in number to seven children. When asked what was up with her large families, she would wryly reply, "It gets cold in Connecticut." Leaving the cold for a sunnier climate, Eleanor and Louie moved their growing family to San Pedro, California in 1952. California's warmer weather was a good match for Eleanor's warm heart and kind soul. Her kitchen became the center of the neighborhood, playing host to old and young alike. Her "red stew" was a favorite among the neighborhood kids who would often snag an invitation to stay for dinner. Those "kids" still talk about it today! Later in life, Eleanor began to gradually lose her eyesight, eventually going completely blind. She did not let her disability slow her down. She continued to live her life to the fullest, often passing as fully sighted. When her husband Louis retired in 1989, they moved to Boulder City, Nevada. When the passing of Louis and her failing health made living alone impossible, Eleanor made her final move into her daughter Marie's Las Vegas home, where she comfortably spent her final years. Ellie will always be remembered for her smile, infectious laugh and her incredibly positive outlook on life. She was greatly loved and will be missed by many. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, January 14th, at 11:30 AM, in the chapel at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes , CA. Please sign the guestbook at dailybreeze.com/obits.
