Capt. Francis "Frank" A. Collins, USNR. February 4, 1933 ~ April 21, 2018
Capt. Francis "Frank" Collins, USNR, 85, passed away at his Rancho Palos Verdes home on April 21st. He was born and grew up in Scranton, PA, the son of Cecilia Dixon Collins and Alban J. Collins. In 1956, Frank graduated from Villanova University, earning his BS in economics. He was a member of the Delta Pi Epsilon fraternity.

In 1956, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was commissioned an Ensign at the Officer's Candidate School, Newport, RI. He completed three years of active duty as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Supply Corps, serving on the USS Tortuga and at the Naval Supply Depot, Philadelphia, PA. He remained in the U.S. Navy Reserve until he retired after 30 years as a Captain. Frank was highly regarded by his shipmates and known for his keen wit, gregarious nature and willingness to mentor others.

After completing active duty, he moved to California and worked for Getty Oil. He met Shirley Brutvan and married her on November 24, 1962 at St. Monica's Catholic Church. They celebrated their 55th anniversary this past November.

In the course of Frank's career, he received an MBA from USC in 1964, worked at McDonnell Douglas and was CFO at the Los Angeles Soap Co. He was Treasurer of the Public Health Foundation Enterprises for 17 years. Frank was a lifelong fan of his Villanova Wildcats, USC Trojans, the Navy, and Notre Dame. His hobbies were sailing and travelling, and he visited over 30 countries while he was in the Navy and later with his wife.

Frank is survived by his wife, Shirley Collins, and his daughters, Susan, Nancy and Linda, their husbands Michael and Jan, and his grandchildren, John, David, Nicholas, Marcus, Conor, Brendan and Aidan. Also surviving are Frank's sister, Anne Kotheimer and husband Bill, his brother-in-law Michael Murray, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Frank's parents and his sister Mary A. Murray preceded him in death.

The funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 21st at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Donations in Frank's name may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (http://www.nmcrs.org/).
