George VanDoren Obituary
George E. Van Doren

George E. Van Doren passed away peacefully at home on the afternoon of April 9, 2018. George was born on March 18, 1925, in El Monte, California. George was very proud of his Southern California roots.
George enlisted in the Navy during World War II, serving as an Aerographer's Mate. It was while serving in Corpus Christi, Texas, he met his future wife, Betty Lou Jones. After the war, George and Betty married and had two sons, Kirk and Craig. George went to work for what was then called Pacific Telephone, and had a long and successful career, retiring at the young age of 55. He then pursued many hobbies, ranging from stained glass, bicycling and caring for his pride and joy, his Datsun 240Z.
After Betty passed in 1994, George married Patricia Starr, and moved to San Pedro. There he had a second career working at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. He enjoyed providing narration for whale watch boats as well as lecturing at local schools and the aquarium. George and Pat enjoyed traveling, both here and abroad.
George enjoyed life to the fullest, always sure to make time for an afternoon Margarita.
A Celebration of Life will be held in June at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits
