Glenda Yick Quon (Chun) BrownNovember 9, 1933 - June 23, 201884, of Torrance, CA passed away June 23, 2018 at home. Born in Honolulu, HI on November 9, 1933, the fourth of Hoy and Violet Look Chun's seven children. Known as "Kalae" to her family, Glenda graduated from Farrington High School, Class of 1951. She continued her education at Honolulu Business College (HBC), earning a stenographic diploma that served her well over a 42-year secretarial career. In 1958, she moved from Hawaii to California at the invitation of a friend from HBC. In 1968, while working for the City of Los Angeles in a temporary position, she met her husband, Martin "Marty" Brown. They married at the Silver Bell Chapel in Las Vegas. Glenda spent more than 20 years working for the Southern California Gas Company before moving to the LA Department of Water and Power for the last four years of her career. Glenda and Marty shared a love of traveling, fine dining, and spending time with family and friends. In fact, Glenda's last trip, a fun-filled group tour to Laughlin, NV, was less than a year before her unexpected passing. Independent, well organized, thoughtful, kind, and loyal, she will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend and will be greatly missed. Predeceased by her husband, Martin Brown; her parents; brothers Edwin "Tin Sun" Chun and Alfred "Yat Hing" Chun; sisters Helen "Kam Inn" Furness, Gladys "Yukie" Nishibata, and Shirley Chun. Survived by son Frank Brown of Harbor City, CA; sister Maybelle "Ah Heong" Ching of Honolulu, HI; and many nieces and nephews. Private scattering of ashes. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center, Garden Rooms, 3330 Civic Center Drive, Torrance, CA 90505.
