1934 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Sept. 3, 1934 - Sept. 17, 2018Laurie An DaVall passed away on September 17, 2018 in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA after a valiant struggle with ALS. She was born on September 3, 1934 to Raymond and Genevieve Cox in Upland, CA. She grew up in Corona and Los Angeles, and attended Los Angeles High School where she excelled in high diving. She attended the University of Arizona and UCLA and was a Kappa Kappa Gamma member. She and George secretly eloped on September 2, 1954 to New York City, and eventually settled in Rancho Palos Verdes to raise their four children. She enjoyed serving as a Girl Scout, YMCA and sports leader. After the children were grown, she worked at Kaiser Permanente in Harbor City for 25 years. She was a devoted, loving and incredible wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved helping others in her family, community and church in her quiet, unassuming, generous and caring way. She loved her home and was the consummate home maker. She could get a stain out of anything! She was a master at attracting humming birds to the feeder in her garden. She and George traveled worldwide, but her favorite place was Napili Bay, Maui. She will be missed immensely by all. She is survived by George, her loving husband of 64 years; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Janet DaVall; daughter, Gail; son, Bradley; daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Gus Hermes; sister, Connie Fledderjohann; six adoring grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of San Pedro, 731 Averill Street on September 28 at 11:00 a.m. After the service, a luncheon reception will be held in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Epidermolysis Bullosa research, www.ebresearch.org. EB is the devastating skin disorder that Laurie's granddaughter, Noelle has.
