Leslie Phillips Obituary
Les Phillips On Monday October 22, 2018, Leslie Phillips, beloved by all, passed away at the age of 88. Les was born September 11, 1930 in Lomita, to Leslie and Bessie. He played pro baseball for 8 years, served in the Navy for 2 years, and in 1959 he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Pepperdine. On October 17, 1987 Les married his soul-mate, Gloria and they were married for 27 years when she passed away in 2013. Les worked for the City of Gardena for 35+ years before retiring in 1994. Les loved his work and was inspired to make the City of Gardena Parks & Recreation a welcome place for all kids, many of whom he created a life-long friendship. He was passionate about golf and in particular fishing for which he often made his own poles and created special lures. Les lived in Lomita his entire life and had a strong connection to his community. He was incredibly positive, compassionate, funny, and always a gentleman. He will be missed terribly by his family and many friends. Les was preceded in death by his father, Pappy, his mother, Bessie, and his wife, Gloria. He is survived by his brother, Danny, his four step-children, Lori, Cheryl, Tav, and Lisa, grandchildren, Jesse, Cheyne, and Alex, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and his beloved Boston Terriers, Katie and Keeper. A small private service will be held for the family and close friends. A guest book has been set-up for all to sign and share at www.dailybreeze.com/obits
