1922 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Aug. 9, 1922 - Oct. 18, 2018On Wednesday evening October 18, 2018, Marge Rados, 96, peacefully passed from this life into the next, with her family by her side. Born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 9, 1922 to George Strohmeyer and Elizabeth Lyons. Marge was the oldest of nine children including George Jr., Rita, Marion, Betty Jo, Susan, David, Shayla and Kevin. The family moved to McAllen, Texas after the Great Depression. While attending the University of Texas in 1944, she met and later married Ensign Robert Rados at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 2001, and leaves behind 5 children, Bob Jr. (Kim), Greg, Sue (Bert), Vicki (Mike) and Randy (Karie), 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She was a registered nurse by profession. After World War II ended, they moved to Santa Clara where Bob completed his studies in Engineering and then moved again in 1949 to San Pedro where Bob's family owned and operated Harbor Boat Building Company, one of the first shipyards established in L.A. harbor in 1919 on Terminal Island. She was very active in the community as well as Mary Star of the Sea Parish where she had been most recently a Eucharistic Minister and Reader. She was an exceptional and dedicated mother, devoted wife, great friend, and lifelong Catholic with a strong faith and great love of God. She was a past president of the Mary Star PTA, Maristella Parents Club, a CCD instructor as well as past president of the Las Damas Club of Fermin Lasuen High School and Rotary Anns Club of San Pedro. She was also a Board Advisor for the Assistance League and avid bridge player, a member of the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, and member of the Mangia Bevi Club. The family would like to thank her caregivers Cielo, Roda, Shirley, and Christina for their compassion and making her last months comfortable. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of her Life will be offered on Thursday, October 25, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church.
