Nicholas Maricich Obituary
Nicholas Maricich 1923-2018 Nicholas Maricich was born in 1923 in Madera, California to Croatian immigrants Laura (nee Poklepovic) and Pasko Maricich. He passed away last week at the age of 95. Nick spent his early years at the family ranch in Madera, playing in their vineyards and surrounded by a loving extended family. In 1935, the Maricich family relocated to San Pedro where Nick graduated from San Pedro High School in the Class of 1942. Shortly after graduation, Nick joined the US Coast Guard and served his country in WW II. He spent much of the war circling the globe as a crew member on the troop transport, the SS Randall. In 1946, Nick proudly joined the Los Angeles Fire Department and rose to the rank of Captain II before he retired in 1972. He served much of his career in the LAFD Fire Prevention Bureau. After retirement, he worked for many years as a fire prevention officer on numerous television and movie film location shoots around Los Angeles, ensuring that the producers provided a safe environment for the actors and crew. Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Winifred, their son Ronald (Patricia) and their daughter Wendy (Bill). Nick and Winnie's son, Nicholas, passed away in 1967. Nick's brothers Anthony (Louise) and Mitchell (Dianne) also predeceased him. Nick is survived by grandchildren: Laura Maricich Lee (Nathan), Nick Maricich (Nicholas), and Julia Maricich Darud (Andrew), as well as Kalon (Jessica), Kara (Yvette), and Kaly. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren Patrick, Amanda, Charlotte, Sicilia, Lianna, and Rell. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, November 8 at 10:30 am at Mary Star of the Sea Church in San Pedro. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits
