March 11, 1920 - July 31, 2018Vinko (Vic) B. Matulich passed away on July 31, 2018 at home. Vic was born March 11, 1920 in Molat, Croatia. He came to America when he was 10 years old. He lived in Hoquiam, WA., before moving to San Pedro, Ca. Vic played basketball for 3 years and was on the track team for 1 year and held the pole vault record for 20 years at San Pedro High School. He graduated in summer of 1939. Vic was in the Coast Guard from 1941 to 1946. He also played against the Harlem Globetrotters in 1940 in Long Beach, Ca and against them in 1942 in Seattle, WA. Vic was a member of the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge #1378 since 1952 and was also an associate member of the Torrance Elks Lodge # 1948. He was a longshoreman for 44 years, with the last 29 years as foreman for local 94. Vic was very active, he bowled 3 days a week and line danced every Wednesday night. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Matulich, and stepson, Robert Sullivan. Vic is survived by his brother, Don (Norma) Matulich; stepsons, Richard and Raymond Sullivan and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Vynia Bautista for the loving care she gave to Vic in the five years as a caregiver and also her husband, Ramel. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, 11 a.m. at McNerney's Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Elks National Foundation at the Redondo Beach Elks #1378 or Torrance Elks #1948, or .
