1913 - 2010 Obituary Condolences
Bennie Garcia, age 97, got on his horse and rode to be with his Lord and Savior on September 17, 2010. As with everything he did, Bennie battled his long illness bravely.
He was born September 17, 1913, at Dripping Springs, New Mexico to Maximo and Antonia Garcia. He was a 1935 graduate of Tucumcari High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Germany. After the war, he ranched with his brother, Herbert, in Gallegos and Bard, New Mexico and later with his great nephew, Joseph W. Otero. In his earlier days, Bennie loved to calf rope.
Surviving Bennie is one sister-in-law, Eleanor Garcia of Tucumcari, New Mexico. He is also survived by his great nephews, and Joseph W. Otero, Billy Otero Jr. and wife, Lori who lived with and cared for him. Also surviving nephews and nieces, Richard Badillo and wife, Pauline, Ernest Badillo and wife, Carmen all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jimmy Folks of San Antonio, Texas, Lillian Folks, Grace Gutierrez, Clara Arguello and husband, Eddie of Santa Fe, Maxine Garcia of Santa Paula, California, and Lourdes Otero and husband, Bill Sr. of Tucumcari, New Mexico, in addition to many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and extended family members who loved and admired him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Juan, Pablo, Doroteo, Herbert, Maximo, and Gracen Garcia; by four sisters, Gertrude Folks, Mary Badillo, Josephine Espinoza, and infant sister, Aurora.
Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening, September 21, 2010, in the St. Anne's Catholic Church beginning at 7:00 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, beginning at 10:00 AM with Rev Father Hyginus Anuta. Pallbearers will be Ricahrd Badillo, Ernest Badillo, Ernie Badillo, Danny Gutierrez, Mark Herrera, Gerald Rykiel III, Bobby Gutierrez, Michael Badillo, Joseph Otero, Billy Otero Jr., and Gary Don Badillo. Honorary bearers will be Bennie Gracia, Margarite Garcia, Jimmie Folks, Lillian Folks, Bobby Casados, Abran Casados, Richard W. Badillo, Helping Hands Hospice nurses and aids, and his personal assisting care givers, Misty Garcia, Billy Otero Sr. and Maria and Larry Sisneros.
Interment will follow in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the U S. Army Honor Guard.
