Charley Neely Charley Neely, age 82, of Portales, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. Charley Neely was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Troup County, Georgia, to Emmett Madison and Edna Iola Martin Neely. He married Helen Politiski Nov. 11, 1944, in Moorhead, Minn. As a young man, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Oregon. He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served his country for 27 years before retiring from the Air Force. He flew 35 missions over Europe during World War II, and he served in Korea and Vietnam. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Consolidated Bottling Co. in Roswell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by six children, Richard Neely (Judy) of Oceanside, Calif., Renee Neely of Portales, Maurene Goodpaster of Milwaukie, Ore., Charles Neely (Lucille) of Wolfforth, Texas, Mary Corley (Eddie) of Logan and Rodger Neely of Roswell; a sister Ellen Joiner (Eddie) of Alexander City Ala. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services were this morning (Wednesday) at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. Father Tom Diebel officiated. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.
