Clifford Quincy Flint


Clifford Quincy Flint, 44, died on March 27, 2005 following an extended illness. Flint was born March 30, 1960 in Groton, Mass. to Shirley and Lt. Quinnie Flint. Three months later his dad's tour of duty completed, and the family returned to Las Cruces for Quinnie to work at White Sands Missile Range. From exploring the Flint family ranch to camping or hiking in the Gila Wilderness to water-skiing and boating at Ute Lake, Flint loved the outdoors. He never lost his child like love of nature. In 1981 Flint met Katherine Theis in a college Latin class. She became his wife in 1985. Flint graduated from New Mexico State University with a major in Physics and a minor in Art. As an undergraduate, he assisted Dr. Alan Van Heuvelen in writing an advanced physics textbook, and was generously credited for his contribution. He also built a LASER internal blood sugar sensor to control the insulin punp Dr. Van Heuvelen had designed. Both products were revolutionary ideas for their time. Flint designed and built a geometric sculpture at the entrance to Young Park in Las Cruces after winning a contest and a contract from the city. Survivors include a daughter Page Flint; a son Joseph Flint; his mother and father Shirley and Quinnie Flint; two brothers Franklin Flint (and wife Debbie); his brother Stephen Flint (Michelle); his grandfather A. F. (Frankie) Flint ; his ex-wife Katherine (Theis) Flint, her brother Brian Theis and her mother Helen Theis; a large extended family including numerous aunts and uncles and cousins in New Mexico. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Riverbend Chapel, Remembrance Gardens area of Riverbend Church campus, 4214 Capity of Texas Highway in Austin. Dr. Gordon Smith will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, Cliff's children respectfully request that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, to celebrate his love of humanity . Arrangements were made by Austin Peel and Son Funeral Home in Austin.
