Dan Eggert Obituary
Dan Eggert, 75, of Tucumcari, NM, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, TX, after extended battle with cancer and other health problems.
Dan was born May 22, 1937, to Fred and Adelina Eggert in Sabinoso, NM. The family moved to Tucumcari in 1947 and he spent life on the family farm with five brothers and three sisters. Dan graduated high school in 1957 from the Tucumcari High School and after moved to California. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army and spent the next two years serving his duty. Shortly after, he moved back to California and acquired a job with Peterbilt Truck Plant, soon advancing to a Mechanic/Welder position. He remained at Peterbilt for eleven years. During this time, he met his wife, Marietta, and soon had one daughter, Andi, in 1969. Dan was officially baptized as a Jehovah's Witness in 1973 and remained until his death. In 1975, the family decided to moved back to Tucumcari where he remained until his death. He started to work with Arch Hurley in Tucumcari in 1979 and retired 18 years later. He had already started a business named Eggert's Welding Services in the late 1980's and continued it until mid 2007. Dan was well known for having his garage sales and going to them. He was once called the "Yard Sale King".
Dan is survived by his daughter, Andi Sanchez (Andrew Hittson); two granddaughters, Samantha Sanchez (Jonothon Blea), and Julianna Sanchez; great grandson, Devon Blea, all of Tucumcari; four brothers, Walter Eggert of Newark, CA, Tony Eggert (Eulan) of San Leandro, CA, David Eggert (Laverne) of El Paso, TX, and Derrell Eggert (Sandy) of Tucumcari; three sisters, Grace Esquibel (Pete) of Colorado Springs, CO, Virginia Greene (Phil) of Phoenix, AZ, and Sophie Smith (Jim) of Tolleson, AZ. He also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Eggert; father, Fred Eggert; wife, Marietta Eggert, and mother, Andelina Eggert. As his wishes he was cremated.
His services will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the Tucumcari Convention Center in the Main Hall at 2:00 pm. There will be a dinner followed after the services also at the Convention Center.
He will be greatly missed and we believe God will answer our prayers in the Resurrection.
