Donald Gene Maddox Obituary
Donald Gene Maddox was born October 27, 1930, in Mangum, OK to Lena Mae and Bert Maddox.
He passed away January 24, 2015, at Clinton, OK at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 27 days.
Donald grew up in Tucumcari, NM where he graduated from high school in 1948. After his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marines and served during the Korean Conflict. Donald obtained the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1952. He was married to Denola Novella Minyard on June 5, 1952. To this union 5 children were born. They lived in Louisiana and Oklahoma before moving to Calgary Alberta, Canada where he began his own business, Canadian Well Logging until the early 80's. He later moved to Elk City where he began working in the oil field and continued until his retirement.
After his retirement, he volunteered by driving the DAV van to Oklahoma City providing transportation to veterans. He also served as a chaplain at the veteran center and involved with other charitable organizations. Donald always held a special place in his heart for Denola and loved spending time with his grandchildren, enjoyed traveling, fishing and music.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his 5 children, Gary Maddox and wife, Cherie, Elk City, OK, Michael Maddox, Dill City, OK, Carrol Maddox, Patricia Mitchell and husband, Vern, Calgary Alberta, Canada, Ronnie Maddox, Cordell, OK; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great grandson on the way, 2 brothers, Doyle Maddox and Bill Maddox, 1 sister, LaNelle Evetts, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 2:00 pm at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery in Tucumcari, NM. Condolences may be made online at www.whineryfs.com.
