Services: Have been held. Donald Sherman Hammer, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007. He was born in Amistad, N.M. to William F. and Myrtle (Fitzgerald) Hammer, and raised in Mosquero, N.M. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 66 years, Edith (Oliver); two daughters, Donna Durnell and husband, Dale of Oklahoma, and Sammy (Bill) Kingston of Tennessee; grandchildren, Bryan Durnell, Matthew Kingston, Chestena Whittington, Gary Kingston and Andrew Kingston; five great-grandchildren; special niece and nephew, Tommie Jo Deaton and Bill Hammer; and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Hammer was preceded in death by his sister, Laura Mae Allen; and brother, Glenn Hammer. He served in WWII, three years in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Hammer drove a truck for Navajo Freight Lines, which later became ABF. He was a great lover of nature and the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing, always planning for the next trip, his family said. Memorial services were held Saturday, April 28, 2007, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Rev. Dale Durnell and Richard Garcia officiated at the services at University Chapel. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank Sol Amor Hospice, especially Mary Ann Pratt, Vicki Munoz and Richard Garcia. Arrangements are by French Mortuary of Albuquerque.
