Donna is survived by her husband, Robert "Bobby" Dominguez of Tucumcari; her sons, Vernon Chris Christie and wife, Kim and their son, Shawn, and Paul G. Christie and wife, Sharon; 9 grandchildren, Shawn, Brandon, Nikki, Katie, Samantha, Aaron, Ryan, Amber, another Aaron along with 11 great grandchildren. Donna is also survived by her third set of children, Catheryne Rutherford and Christine Dominguez, and two granddaughters, Danielle and Cynthia Rutherford.
Donna was born in Mount Pulaski, IL, at home on July 28, 1939. At age 17, she married Vernon Christie and became a step mother to 4 children. Not too long after that came her three beautiful boys. The family grew up in Springfield, Illinois and later moved to Mahomet, IL, where the boys soon became men and started lives on their own.
Having raised her family, Donna decided to venture west to Rio Rancho, NM, in an effort to make a different kind of life for herself in 1987. In 1989, she met Bob Dominguez and officially became a resident of Quay County in 1991. Soon she married Bob, acquired her third set of children, once again became a loving mother and grandmother. She has been a part of the Dominguez family for over 22 years. Donna came to New Mexico to see something different happen in her life; but when it came right down to it, she ultimately became what she already was, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Donna settled into Tucumcari quite well and became an employee of Quay County in 1991. By 1993, she became Deputy Treasurer and in 2008 she became Treasurer. Donna was always active in the community with her sisters in Altrusa and active as a Lady Democrat. She has been a faithful member and served on the finance board of the First Christian Church in Tucumcari for Tucumcari, NM, for many years. in 2010, Donna decided to slow down and retire from her busy life and enjoy her two families, her brother, husband, and their grandchildren.
We remember our mom, grandmother, and wife as a true believer in Christ. She always spoke of her deep love for her Savior, Jesus Christ and was truly humbled by his selfless act of love for mankind. Donna always had a shoulder for anyone to lean on and uplifting words to those in need. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to dance with her husband. She gave her best to her life in every way. We loved her and will greatly miss her presence and profound encouragement to always seek HIM. She touched all of us sweetly, with kindness and in Jesus' name. We thank our Lord for sharing Donna Mae with us for so many years.
Services celebrating her life will be Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Dunn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Witcher, Minister of the First Christian Church officiating. Following, services, interment will take place in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari, NM. The family suggests for those who wish, donations may be made to the First Christian Church in loving memory of Donna Dominguez.
