Flora Lucille Kauffman Flora Lucille Kauffman, 87, died on November 27, 2004 in Clayton following an extended illness. Lucille Kauffman was one of the pioneer spirits in Quay County having served as the first female assessor in the state. She also ranched with her husband , drove a mail truck and school bus route. She also cooked for Quay School. This was in addition to working census and working as a pharmacy technician at Sands Dorsey Drugs following her graduation from House High School in 1933. She served as a 4-H leader, fair board member, was active in the Quay Community Center and served numerous Quay Broncs Barbcues. She was preceded in death by husband W.G. "Buster" Nations and husband Raymond Kauffman. She is survived by two sons, Louis Nations (Barbara) of Portales, Perry Nations (Sondra) of Weatherford, Texas; two daughters, Judy Smith (Jack) of Tucumcari and Peggy Cole (Don) of Ninnekah, Okla.; a sister Josephine Bradley of Silver City; and a brother W.B. "Dub" Perry of Alamogordo. She was also survived by seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Thursday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Quay Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Kulback officiating. Cremains will interred at that time. Donations may be made to the Trigg Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
