Grace Evelyn (Johnson) Hoskins Obituary
Grace Evelyn Johnson Hoskins, age 86, of Danville, AR, formerly of Tucumcari, NM, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Mitchell's Nursing Home in Danville.
Grace was born September 30, 1929, in Pittsburg, Camp County, TX, to the late William Oscar "Ott" and Allie Lee "Jack" Flemings Johnson. She married Albert C. Hoskins on November 16, 1949, and he remained the love of her life until his death on February 21, 2002.
In her early years, Grace worked as a waitress and manager of Lynn's Café in Tucumcari and later worked at the infamous Pow Wow for many years. Albert and Grace, along with Albert's brother Butch and Butch's wife Helen, co-owned and managed Hoskins Elk Lodge in Tres Ritos, NM, where she mothered nearly all of her nieces and nephews, along with a host of kids from New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Arkansas who annually visited the lodge.
Grace and Albert were avid fishermen, having fished all over the United States. Grace was also the ultimate cook. Her Mexican dishes were unmatched, especially her homemade tamales and salsas. During the holiday season, her friends would always request that she bake her cinnamon rolls, pies and coconut cake. Today she would have her own cooking show. She was also uniquely skilled in sewing, knitting and crafting. Albert always said that his Grace was probably the most self-sufficient woman on earth. He said that she could hunt, fish, repair almost anything and was a great businesswoman. She moved to Arkansas in 2007 to live with her niece, Carolyn, and became an avid Razorback fan.
Grace is preceded in death by her beloved Albert; their daughter; Jolene Hoskins; a sister, Ada Beth Odom and her parents.
Survivors include a host of nephews, nieces and friends that she and Albert adopted over the many years of their lives.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 14th, 2016, at Springer Cemetery, Springer, NM.
