Amarillo, Texas resident, Harold V. (Pete) Davis, age 95, passed away at his home in Amarillo, Texas on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
Pete was born January 14, 1914, in Guymon, Oklahoma to David and Sarah Davis. As a young boy, he and his family moved to Estilene, Colorado where they lived until 1922. The family then moved to Cuatis, New Mexico and then to Moses, New Mexico, where he attended school. He finished his senior year at the Clayton High School in Clayton, New Mexico. Pete's parents leased the McKenzie place on the Dry Cimarron for 14 years and then Pete, along with his parents, purchased the ranch.  He was married to Mavis Turley December 2, 1958, in Raton, New Mexico. After selling the ranch, they moved to Clayton, New Mexico where they lived for 22 years and then moved to Amarillo ,Texas in 2003.
In the early 60's Pete turned his life over to God and accepted Christ at the Kenton United Methodist Church. He had been a board member of the Federal Land Bank for 22 years, he was a Union County Commissioner for 4 years and enjoyed being a disciple in the Easter Pageant at Kenton, Oklahoma. He served as a board member for his church in Kenton.
Surviving Pete is his wife, Mavis of Amarillo Texas; one step-daughter, Jo Ann Simpson of Tucumcari; grandchildren, Scott Simpson and Cheryl, Tami Simpson, Kelly Willard and Jay, Elton Turley II and Tamara; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, Hoyte and Clyde Davis; by his two sisters,  Ruth Simpson and Elsie Nieman; by two stepsons, Milton Turley and Elton Turley; by his son-in-law, David (Punk) Simpson and by a grandson, Russell Simpson.
Services celebrating his life will be conducted in the Dunn Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 3, 2009, beginning at 10:00 AM with Rev. Robert Brown of South Georgia Baptist Church in Amarillo and Rev Winfield Davenport of Floydada, Texas officiating. Pall bearers will be Ethan Labrier, Jack Hemphill, Sheldon Turley, Kody Willard, Curtis Simpson and Bill Simpson. Interment will follow in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery.
