Harold Vaden "Jack" Garrett Obituary
Harold Vaden "Jack" Garrett, age 85, long time San Jon, NM, resident and rancher, passed away Monday morning, February 14, 2011, following an extended illness.
Viewing and visitation will be held at Dunn Funeral Home in Tucumcari, NM, beginning Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM through 7:00 PM that evening and again on Thursday morning at 9:00 AM through 11:00 AM. Graveside services celebrating his life will be Thursday afternoon beginning at 1:00 PM in the San Jon Cemetery at San Jon, NM.
Jack was born December 3, 1925, in Nara Visa, NM, to William "Bill" Thomas Garrett and Mary Emma Bailey Garrett.  In 1937, the family moved to the ranch south of San Jon, NM, where Jack resided the rest of his life. Jack raised Hereford cattle and Registered Quarter Horses. He was an animal lover as evidenced by the menagerie of animals and birds on the ranch. Jack was honored by the American Quarter Horse Association in 1998 for registering and breeding Quarter Horses for 50 continuous years. He was one of only twenty people, world wide to receive this honor. He was well know and respected in the New Mexico Quarter Horse racing industry.  He served his country in the US Army during WWII. Jack had a keen sense of humor and a  quick wit that endered him to his many friends.
Surviving Jack is his wife, SaLena Garrett of the home; children, Shirley Wood, Karen Huffmon and husband, Onnie all of Alamogordo, NM, Bill Garrett and wife, Joyce of Tucumcari, Debbie Collins and husband, Stewart of Bixby, OK, and Milt Garrett and wife, Loretta of Roswell, NM; his sisters, Bernice Cosner of Tucumcari, NM, and Billie Garrett of Amarillo, TX; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his previous wife, Dorothy Garrett, and by his sister, Sibyl M Moore.
Following the graveside services, interment will take place in the family plot of the San Jon Cemetery at San Jon, NM.
