Jane Ann "Jan" (Liberty) Dunlap Obituary
DUNLAP, Jane Ann (Jan) passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018, in Amarillo, TX. She was born June 14, 1947, and was adopted by James Sherman and Louise T. Liberty in Rumford, Maine and raised in Albuquerque, NM.
After graduating in 1965 from Sandia High School, she received an Associate of Arts Degree from Arizona Western College, Yuma, AZ. Later she attended Arizona State University majoring in Business Agriculture.
Jane married Sam (Sandy) Dunlap on July 27, 1968 in Yuma, AZ and moved to Elida, NM where Sam taught Vo-Ag. The Dunlap's moved to Las Cruces, NM where Sam continued his education and Jane worked at White Sands Missile Range in the Finance and Accounting Department.
In 1973 they moved to Tucumcari, NM where Sam was employed by the New Mexico Livestock Board as a Livestock Inspector II. Upon moving to Tucumcari, Jane became active in Alpha Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; the Rattler Booster Club; a youth sponsor for the United Methodist Church; the 4-H Rodeo program in Quay County as well as the NM State 4-H Rodeo program.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years; Sam, one son; Bryan Dunlap and wife Teri of Tucumcari, NM, one daughter; Debra Myers and husband Kenny of Texico, NM, grandchildren; Kristen Dunlap of Fayetteville, AR, Rod Avery Dunlap of Tucumcari, NM, Kenneth Dale (Buddy) Myers Jr. and Destanee Myers of Texico, NM, one sister; Jena Hussey and husband Dwaine of Tucson, AZ, niece Lori Brothers and husband Larry of TN, and nephew, James Hussey and wife Jessica of Marana, AZ.
She is also survived by a brother-in-law, John and wife Holly of Corrales, NM, nieces Christy Dunlap of Albuquerque, NM, Kristin Horton and husband Chris of Dayton, OH, Hayley Encinias of Clayton, NM, sister-in-law; Mary Ly Lowen of Willow Park, TX, niece, Lori Mares and husband Dale of Ft. Worth, TX, sister-in-law, Debbie Cini and husband mark of Florence, WI, nieces; Abby Case and husband Mike of WI, Stacy Cloer and husband Russell of Bloomfield, NM, Kate Ortiz and husband Mike of NJ, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews and dear friends, Gary and Linda Hatterman and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; James and Louise Liberty, in-laws; Woodrow and Ginny Dunlap, brother-in-law; David Noble Dunlap, niece; Ginny Gale Dunlap, nephew, Rod Glenn Dunlap, sister-in-law; Gale (Johnson) Dunlap, and a grandson; Dakota Ray Myers.
Mrs. Dunlap loved her work and retired from Arch Hurley Conservancy District as the Office Manager and Recording Secretary of the Board of Directors for 25 years. The love of her life has been her husband, children, and grandchildren. Christmas was one of her favorite seasons, enjoying all the lights, music, and movie specials. Indian summer was another of her favorite times of year as well as anytime in the mountains. You could hear her say that the mountains were "God's Cathedral."
Mrs. Dunlap has been cremated and services are planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers please consider contributing to the Quay County 4-H Rodeo Program, P.O. Drawer B, Tucumcari, NM 88401 and/or , P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
