1930 - 2011 Obituary Condolences
Joan Gholson,  age 80, passed away at her home in Tucumcari, NM, early Wednesday morning, November 2, 2011, following an extended illness.
Joan was born December 22, 1930, at  Nara Visa, NM. She was the daughter of Ira and Ima Moncus Ward.  She attended Nara Visa and Tucumcari Schools graduating from Tucumcari High School in 1948. Joan married Jack A. Gholson on July 3, 1948. She had been employed by Exxon Oil Company in Houston for 15 years retiring in 1987. After retirement, she and Jack enjoyed many trips to Alaska and traveling with the Tucum Sams Chapter of the Good Sam Club.
Surviving her are four sons, Ricky Gholson and wife, Linda of Fulshear, TX, Gary Gholson of Cypress, TX, Steven Gholson and wife, Janet of Sinton, TX, Jerry Gholson and wife, Kay of Houston, TX; two daughters, Cynthia Wright of Tucumcari, NM, and Melody Thomas and husband, Kevin of Katy, TX; her brother, Jeff Ward and  wife, Ivy of Nara Visa, NM, and her sister, Sandra Alford and husband, Rogene of Corona, NM;  brother-in-law, Sammy Gholson and wife, Sue of Tucumcari, NM; 15 grandchildren, Cory, Ryan, Dawn, Randy Jeff, Brad, Jeremiah, Jennifer, Callie, Samantha, Brian, Kevin, Brent, Buss, and Kolby. Also 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Jack and by her sister, Loretta "Tink" Nixon and her husband, George Nixon.
Services celebrating her life will be Saturday afternoon, November 5, 2011, in the First Baptist Church of Tucumcari, NM, beginning at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bob Miller and  Rev. John Hinze officiating. Pallbearers will be Rickey Gholson, Gary Gholson, Steve Gholson, Jerry Gholson, Alan Wright, and Kevin Thomas.  Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and close personal friends.  Interment will follow in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Dunn Funeral Home.
