1912 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
Laura Sue Wallace Tucek, age 100, passed away on Sunday evening, March 4, 2012, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Sue was born February 9, 1912, in Briscoe County, Texas near Silverton, Texas. 
She was the first of eight children of Edward Hutson and Maggie Lee Wallace. The family moved to the Norton, New Mexico area when she was 9 months old. Sue was reared in the Norton Community first attending the Apache School and later other area schools. Sue graduating from the Tucumcari High School. In 1929. The family moved to Canyon, Texas so Sue and her sisters could attend West Texas State College with Sue graduating in 1932 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics and began her long teaching career. Sue was a long time resident of New Mexico where she taught school, first in one and two room schools, before retiring from Tucumcari High School as the Home Economics Teacher. After retirement, Sue stayed active working on the family ranch, as a member of the Wheatland Extension Club, the New Mexico Retired Teachers Association, and fostering her many nieces and nephews. Sue married Harry Tucek in 1933, with him preceding her in death in 1982.
Surviving her are two brothers, Edward Hutson Wallace Jr. and wife, Wanda of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Joe Derek Wallace and wife, Delores of Mayhill, New Mexico, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death  by her parents and her sisters, Joan Rusk, Maxine Fife, Johnie Gifford, Noma  Tillman, and Mary McDonald.
Services celebrating her life will be Saturday morning, March 10, 2012, in the Dunn Memorial Chapel beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Officiating will be her nephew, Carol McDonald. Her family will serve as active and honorary pall bearers.
 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Helping Hands Hospice at 624 South 2nd Street, Tucumcari, New Mexico 88401 or to in loving memory of Sue Tucek.
Services have been entrusted to the Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari, New Mexico, 575-461-3815.
