Louise Spiegelmire Bohannon went to accompany the heavenly chorus on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, in Arlington.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Louise Saturday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Arlington, Texas.
Born on June 20, 1922, in Tucumcari, New Mexico to John and Clara Spiegelmire, she graduated valedictorian of the 1940 class. An accomplished pianist, she received a full scholarship to attend McMurry University where she later received a BS degree in Music Education. She continued there as instructor of music theory, vocal coach, and choir accompanist.
In 1949, she graduated with a Master of Music Education Degree from TCU and continued her teaching career at UTA. She maintained a private piano studio for over 40 years and assisted in many musical productions in Ft. Worth and Arlington. As a Music Specialist she taught in the Arlington ISD until retiring in 1987.
Louise had a life-long passion for both the arts and education and a heart for serving others. Awards included: Teacher of the Year 1976-77 Rankin Elementary; Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership; Twenty-First Century Award from Texas Retired Teachers and Arlington's Outstanding Sr. Citizen of the Year for 1991. A member of the Arlington Story League, she told stories to hundreds of school children across the district. In 2004, she received the First Place Award from the National Story League. A certified instructor in arthritis aquatics, she helped many with their exercise programs at Hugh Smith Pool. She knitted baby blankets for the Lamar PEP Program, afghans for Meals on Wheels, and baby caps for Arlington Memorial Hospital.
A member of First Methodist Church since 1948, she was active in the Chancel Choir, Hand Bell Choir, and pianist for the Aldersgate Sunday School class for 60 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Nunn and husband, Jimmy of Lubbock; son, John Bohannon and wife, Kara of Golden, Colorado; grandchildren, Jaime and Scott Montgomery, Michael Nunn, Patrick Bohannon, and Anna Louise Bohannon; brother, Joe Spiegelmire of Spain; sister-in-law, Mary Spiegelmire of Tucumcari; nieces and nephews and many dear, devoted friends.
