Lowell Michael "Mickey" Potter


Services: At 2 p.m. Monday at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. Lowell Michael "Mickey" Potter died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, in Albuquerque. Mr. Potter was born May 5, 1946 in Canyon, Texas. He attended public schools in Tucumcari and graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1964. He was an all-star athlete at Tucumcari High School, and played on football scholarships at New Mexico Military Institute, West Texas State University and Eastern New Mexico University. He received his degree from ENMU in 1968 and began his teaching career in the Albuquerque public schools. A lifelong public school educator and coach, he also taught in Tohatchi, Artesia and Gallup. He served in the New Mexico National Guard units in Tucumcari and Albuquerque. Mr. Potter recently retired from Albuquerque Public Schools as a special education teacher. A skilled handy man, he built three of his own homes, in Artesia, Gallup, and his current residence in Tijeras. He is survived by his wife, Janice Benson Potter, his son, Matthew Potter, both of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Reaghan Revstock; step-son, Walt Benson; step-grandson, Orion, his mother and step-father, Richard and Marilyn Perry of Carlsbad; two sisters, Susan Botta Sills of El Centro, Calif. and Cynthia Rives of Stephenville, Texas; and a brother, Kirk Potter of Lubbock, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Potter, and a son, Michael Brooks Potter. Steve Davis will officiate at the services. Arrangements are by French Mortuary of Albuquerque.
