Margaret Mary (Murph) Tuel, 92, of Bella Vista, AR, died Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Bradford House in Bentonville, AR. She was born on June 2, 1921 in Baltimore, MD to William P. and Margaret G. Phelan Tuel. Her mother died in childbirth when Murph was 8 and her father married Mary Louise Hill in 1930. Her brother, John, was born in 1931.
She graduated from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, MD, in June of 1943 with a B.S. in English with a Science minor. She worked as a switchboard operator at St. Agnes Hospital where she was born. Later for DuPont, and taught school at Seton High, her Alma Mater. She and her college friend, Glendon Buckley, moved to California in 1948 where her family had relocated during WWII, and she became a Medical Technologist in 1954. She met another close friend, Marie Phyllis (Monica) Knothe, while working at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Los Angels.
In 1974, Murph, Glen and Monica left the crowded city for the serene desert vistas of Tucumcari, NM. The three ladies loved their home on the hill overlooking the city with a great view of Tucumcari Mountain. Her parents moved to Tucumcari a year later. Murph worked as a Medical Tech for Dr. James E. Saltz, Jr. until she retired in 1984, but her deep love for Tucumcari held her close until declining health prompted a move with Monica to Bella Vista, AR in 2009 to be close to her nephew, Rick, and his family. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista and beloved by her friends in Concordia Retirement Center. She loved animals and adopted many strays.
She was preceded in death by her parents and dear friend, Glen Buckley.
