Mary Lane "Lanie" Moyers-Goldsmith, 91 years old, passed away quietly at an Amarillo hospital on October 21, 2013. She was born on July 2, 1922, and was raised at San Jon, NM.
Mary Lane is preceded in death by her Husband of more than 65 years, Leonard "Goldie" Goldsmith; her Father; Silon Moyers who was a Veteran of the Spanish American War and the first Law Enforcement Officer in the San Jon area; and by her Mother, Mary Frances Purcell-Moyers who was the first School Teacher in the San Jon/Porter School.
Also three siblings; brothers, Max "Mickey" Moyers and Marcellous "Soupe" Moyers, a sister, Billie Elizabeth "Buzz" Moyers-Ryan.
Mary Lane is survived by her Daughter, Billie Frances Goldsmith-Howell and her Grandson, Haley Place both of Tucumcari, NM. Additionally there are three remaining members of Mary Lane's High School Graduating Class: Thomas "Buster" Goscinski, of Pasadena, TX., Oscar Jordan, of Santa Fe, NM., and Zona Garr-Byrne, San Diego, CA.
Mary Lane was a quick-wit, fun loving and proud. She enjoyed gardening, canning her garden produce and the area's Wild Plumbs. Mary Lane was also an accomplished seamstress and designed and produced garments for persons who could not shop "off the rack" due to any physical disfigurement. She and husband, Goldie lived for many years in the San Francisco Bay Area where Goldie worked as an iron-worker and also played in a Country and Western Band. The Bands costumes were another area where she excelled, having made some of the most intricate and delightful Western outfits of ANY time.
Mary Lane had a long and accomplished life. She will be missed by all.
As a member of one of Quay Counties Pioneering Families, her vast experience provided all a wealth of information from her memories of life this area.
