Newell Conner Edward Newell Conner Edward, 83, died Oct. 23, 2003 in Amarillo. He was born Aug. 10, 1920 in Liberal, Kan. Mr. Edward moved with his family in a covered wagon from Texas to New Mexico where they homesteaded in south eastern New Mexico. They later moved up to Quay County where he attended and graduated from the McAlister school system in 1938. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He and his wife Velma owned and operated the taxi service the Rony Dy Voo bus station No. 1 and No. 2. He owned a ranch in north eastern New Mexico near Abbot before buying the Casa Blanca Bar, Cafe and Dance Hall in Socorro. Mr. Edward also lived in Lake Tahoe for several years before returning to Quay County. He worked for the state of New Mexico Department of Transportation, Weights and Measures Department, Quay County Sheriff Department and for a short time with the Tucumcari Police Department. At the time of his retirement he was active in farming and ranching in Quay County. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Edward Boulware and husband Darrel of Logan, Kimberly Edwards Welsh of Amarillo, two brothers, Theron Edwards of Logan and Dale Morgan of Clovis, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A grave side service was Monday at the Quay Cemetery. The Rev. Jeanie Williams officiated. Pallbearers were Jeff Boulware, Allen Edwards, Danny Edwards, Gary Edwards, Charlie Evans, Frank Garnett, Joel Garnett, George Hicks, Warren Johnson, Bobby Ramsey, John Ramsey, Newell Ramsey, Chris Roper, Dustin Welch and D.F.
