Quanah Parker Reid


Services: 2:30 p.m., Thursday in the Dunn Memorial Chapel, Tucumcari. Quanah Parker Reid, 92, died on Satruday, March 3, 2007, at his home in Tucumcari.  Mr. Reid was born  Feb. 22,1915 in Bovina, Texas to Oscar S. and Oma Reid and came to Tucumcari with his family.  He attended and graduated from Tucumcari High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He played  Rattler football and he was a golden glove boxer being undefeated in all 26 of his matches. Mr. Reid was also a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in the Phillipines and New Guinea.  He loved living in Tucumcari  and although he had to move his family away to seek employment he always considered Tucumcari home and always returned to Tucumcari. He was able to stay at home because of his daughter Clora who is a CNA Home Health Aide and had been his primary care giver since 2003. During his life he was primarily a construction worker, working with various contractors in the Tucumcari area and finally he had been employed by Cooper's Market.  He was a former member of the Assembly of God Church and of the Bethel Tabernacal of Tucumcari.   Surviving Mr. Reid are two sons: Richard (LaVeta) Reid Neosho, Mo., Glen (Priscella) Reid Plum, Pa., four daughters, Ethel Reid Ellis of Clovis, Reba Reid (Bill) Cherry of Trussville, Ala., Clora Reid of Tucumcari NM and Barbara Reid Burns of Roswell, N.M., 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are his Richard R. "Si" (Glenda) Reid of Tucumcari and his sister in law Hazel Reid also of Tucumcari. He is preceded in death by his wife Wineva Reid who in 1957.   Interment will be in the family plot of the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials may be made in memory of Quanah Parker Reid to the Hydrocephalus Foundation, Inc.,  910 R.  Broadway, Rte 1, Saugus, Mass.  01906. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari.
