Rilla Pearl (Johnson) Gilmore Obituary
Rilla Pearl (Johnson) Gilmore was born June 19, 1930, in Portales, NM to George W and Alma Opal (Alls) Johnson. Pearl passed away October 19, 2016, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis, NM, after an extended illness. Pearl married Marvin Lee (Jack) Gilmore on January 28, 1948, in Portales, NM. They lived in Portales for a short time before moving to Tucumcari in 1951. They were blessed with four children, whom they raised on their farm outside of Tucumcari, NM. Pearl and Jack farmed and ranched for over 50 years. She loved working the land beside her husband, and this passion was expressed in the love and care she showed to her family and home.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; children, Melvin Gilmore and wife Brenda of Tucumcari, NM, Jackie (Gilmore) McElroy and husband Jim of Clovis, NM, Carol (Gilmore) Block and husband Randy of Tucumcari, NM, and Kim (Gilmore) Rutherford and husband Dale of Artesia, NM; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Jerldine (Johnson) Greaser and husband Leonard of Alamogordo, NM; brothers, Sterling (Shorty) Johnson and wife Eddie of Shreveport, LA, and Truman Johnson of Logan, NM, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and special adopted grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 25, 2016, at 10:00 AM at Dunn's Chapel in Tucumcari, NM. Burial will take place at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Pall Bearers are Tom Martinez, Jason Shepard, Matt Bratcher, Bret Block, A J McElroy and Stephen Smithwick. Honorary pall bearers are all grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home.
