1931 - 2011 Obituary Condolences
Robert Lee Bailey, known to everyone as BOB, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at his home in Nara Visa, NM, following an extended illness.
Bob was born November 11, 1931, in Norton, KS, to Roy William and Mona Dee Lough Bailey. At the age of 16, he moved with his family to Clayton, NM. He graduated from Clayton in 1951. Shortly after that, he married his high school sweetheart, Lavana Mae Baker. To this union two children were born, Robert Michael and Karen Kaye. Bob joined the United States Marine Corp. with his brother-in-law, Weston Baker and served overseas in the Korean Conflict. After his return from service, they moved to Clovis in 1960 where Bob worked for the Southern Union Gas Co. He worked for the gas company until 1966 when he took a civil service job at Cannon Air Force Base. He retired as Chief of Planning in 1991. Bob lost his first wife, Lavana, to cancer in 1998.  He later married Juanita (Nita) Wise and moved to Nara Visa, NM, where he became a beloved member of the Nara Visa United Methodist Church.
Surviving Bob is his wife, Nita of Nara Visa, NM; his son, Mike of Hilo, HI; granddaughter, Michelle Bailey Barada of Albuquerque, NM; four great grandchildren; his daughter, Karen Screws and husband, Doug of St. Vrain, NM, along with two grandsons, Logan and Lukas; his brothers,  Gene Bailey and wife, Sherry of Brighton, CO, and Carl Bailey and wife, Cathy of Espanola, NM; his sister, Charlene Wilkerson of Gold Canyon, AZ; three step grandchildren, Rachelle, Tracy, and Chad Wise; three step great grandchildren, and one step great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lavana; his parents, and one step great grand child.
Services celebrating his life will be Thursday, June 2, 2011, beginning at 12 Noon Mountain Time - 1:00 PM Central Time - in the Dunn Memorial Chapel in Tucumcari.   Rev T. C. Broom and Rev L.R. Haisten will officiate.
Pall bearers will be Doug Screws, Lucas Screws, Logan Screws, Dale Stull, James Rinestine, Sterlin Shields, and Randy McCormick. Honorary bearers will be David Gerard, Irvin Shields, Cody James, Dan James, and Jim Valentine.  Following services, interment will take place in the Melrose Cemetery at Melrose, NM.  The family suggests for those who wish, donations may be made to the Tucumcari Helping Hands Hospice, the or to  the charity of your choice in loving memory of Robert Lee Bailey.
