Roderick Ferdinand Rock Jr Obituary
Roderick Ferdinand Rock Jr. age 82, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017, in Farwell, Texas following an extended illness.
He was born January 1, 1935, in Nara Visa NM to Roderick Sr. and Cleo Baggett Rock of Nara Visa NM. Each side of the family were homesteaders with the Rock family coming from Milwaukee Wisconsin to make their home 10 miles west of Nara Visa in 1908. The Walter Baggett family moved 13 miles northwest of Logan in 1913. The Nara Visa property became the start of the Rock Ranch on which Junior grew up and raised his family. Junior married Janice Ayers from Tucumcari on July 21, 1957. They lived on the ranch headquarters and were in partnership with his father until 1987 when they moved to Logan NM. He served nine years in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Amistad School Board from 1968 to 1973 and a member of the American Legion Post 77 of Logan NM. Junior had many interests and took pride in doing things well. He was an excellent welder, carpenter, metal arts designer and mechanic. He was devoted to his family, ranch and community.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Doris Rock Feerer, and an infant son, Roger Wayne Rock.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; one son, Rodney Rock & wife DeRetha of Logan NM; two daughters, LaDonna Snyder & husband David of Shallowater, Tx and Deneane Rock of Amarillo TX; seven grandchildren, Shane Rock, Rhuston Rock, Brandon Snyder, Dustin May, Todd May, Michelle Terry and Tara Gomez along with several great grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Nara Visa Community Center on Friday March 3, 2017, at 11:00 AM Central Standard Time (10:00 AM Mountain Time) with Clifton Miller officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Nara Visa Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Shane Rock, Rhuston Rock, Brandon Snyder, Dustin May,Todd May, Bryan Rinestine, Jimmy Burns, Jim Egerton and Tony Egerton.
