Warren Byron Coughenour Warren Byron Coughenour, 80, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 in Lubbock. He was born in Haswell, Colo. April 27, 1924 to Clay Webster Coughenour and Hazel Philpott Coughenour Ryan. Warren Coughenour married Evelyn Bach on March 11, 1951 in Artesia. He retired from Mountain Bell in 1979 with 32 years service. He served in the 88th Infantry Division signal corps during World War II in North Africa and Italy. He was also active for 50 years in the volunteer fire departments in both Artesia and Tucumcari. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tucumcari, Kiwanis International, Tucum Sams, served on the Tucumcari City Planning and Zoning Board, served on the Dan C. Trigg Hospital Board, and volunteered with Little League Baseball for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Orland and Gerald Coughenour, on sister Arline Coughenour Ward, and one grandson, Matthew McCord. He is survived by his wife Evelyn and their two daughters Cindy Payne of Midlothian, Texas and Cathy McCord of Lubbock, and one son-in-law Andrew Payne. He is also survived by his brother Marvin Coughenour (Kay) of Cheyenne and two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in law. In addition he is survived by four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Monday at the First Baptist Church. Graveside services and burial were later in the afternoon in Artesia. Donations may be made to Helping Hands Hospice of Tucumcari
