W.C. Carter Obituary
W.C. Carter, 85, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Plains Regional Medical Center, in Clovis, NM. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 1:30pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the US Army Honor Guard.
W.C. was born September 4, 1930, in Amarillo, TX to William C. Carter and Beulah Bohannon Carter. He married Esther Giles July 8, 1959, in Tahlequah, OK. W.C. graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1949. He also earned a BA in 1953, a MA in History in 1956 from Eastern New Mexico University and was an Army Veteran in the Korean War, 1953-1955.
W.C. worked as a Secondary School Teacher in Los Alamos, NM from 1956-1964, and Sante Fe, NM from 1965-1987. His family moved to Clovis in 1996. W.C. was an avid New York Yankee fan who enjoyed coaching/playing tennis, working in the yard, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren.
W.C. is preceded in death by his parents, William C. Carter and Beulah Bohannon; 2 sisters, Betty Yokum and Shirley Hancock; and 1 brother, Charles Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Carter; 2 sons, Brett (Amelia) Carter of Clovis and Wade (Christie) Carter of Portales; 2 sisters, Jean Carr of Stephenville, TX and Anita Drake of Los Alamos, NM; an aunt, Rosa Delaney of Clovis, NM; and 3 grandchildren, Nate Carter, Brandon Carter, and Amy Carter.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675.
