Willa Dean Higgins Willa Dean Higgins, 79, of Fort Sumner, died Feb. 15, 2005, at the Guadalupe County Hospital. She was born on March 26, 1925, in Antlers, Okla., to Hank and Pauline Blevins Cooper. She was raised and attended school in Antlers. Her family moved to a ranch west of Santa Rosa in 1941. She married John R. Higgins on Nov. 10, 1949, in Taos. They made their home in Cuervo from 1949 to 1979. She owned and operated Willa's Beauty Shop in Santa Rosa for many years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Santa Rosa. She was a member of Eastern Star in Santa Rosa. They made their home in Fort Sumner in the 1980's. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband; four sons, John R. Higgins Jr. (and wife, Eva) of Cuervo, Freddy Higgins of Beaumont, Texas, Gene Higgins of Fort Sumner, and Joe Higgins (Theresa) of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Hugh Cooper (Tini) of Tucumcari; a sister, Orva Lee Barnhart of Albuquerque; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cuervo Cemetery in Cuervo. Her sons and grandsons will officiate services. Burial will be at Cuervo Cemetery. Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
