Benito Rael, Jr., age 62, passed away peacefully at home from his battle with pancreatic cancer on July 17, 2013, at the side of his wife Regina of 43 years and his son Benito.|
Benito, "Junior," as he was known to the family, was born in Tucumcari on July 18, 1950, to Benito and Augustina (Jimenez) Rael. He attended and graduated from Tucumcari High School. He then moved to Oklahoma to work for the Rock Island Railroad and married Regina "Linda" (Lucero) Rael. Benito and Linda were married in May 1970. They made their home in Oklahoma until a few months later, at which time he was called to serve his country during the Vietnam conference. Benito and Regina made their way back to New Mexico where he worked for 17 years with Worley Mills Inc and then began his retirement career with the Tucumcari Public Schools in 1989, retiring in June 2012.
They raised their family of four children, Monica (Ruben) Sanchez of Ft. Stockton, TX, Veronica (Jimmy) Encinias of Tucumcari, Benito III (Julie) of Santa Rosa, NM and Albenita "Beany" Rael (Jaime) in Tucumcari. Along with his four loving children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Jarod (Bree) Rael, Jacob Sanchez, Christopher Neal, Justin Garcia, Cassandra Neal, Jordan Garcia, Cerra Neal, Maria Elena Jaramillo, Benito Rael IV (El Cuatro), Marisol Rael, Julien Rael, Madyson Rael, Leah Encinias, Melina Encinias and Erin Encinias and three GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTERS, and he always said "GREAT", Jaylene, Maycie and Kenzie Rael.
Benito was a very devout and faithful man. His life revolved around his family, his love of Jesus Christ and the Blessed Mother. He lived his Cursillo in 1988 at St. Lawrence Cathedral in Amarillo, TX. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. The best membership he ever had was being a Guard of the Blessed Sacrament, where you would find him faithfully on Fridays praying before the Blessed Sacrament. He loved music, most especially Credence Clearwater Revival, Dr. Hook and Antonio Aguilar. He loved fishing and camping and just spending time in front of his favorite television shows or spending time with his family.
Benito is also survived by three sisters, Jean Rael of Clovis, Rita York and Bertha Garcia of Tucumcari; two brothers, Freddy Lucero (Annette) of Albuquerque, NM and Anthony Lucero of Clovis, NM; his sister-in-law Ida Lucero, and two brothers-in-law, Louie Lucero of Albuquerque, NM and Edward Lucero of Tucumcari; his loving Godchildren nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Benito was preceded in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild, by his father and mother Benito SR. and Augustina Rael, his maternal grandfather Jose Jimenez and grandmother Mercedes Jimenez, father and mother-in-law Frank and Pime Lucero and Grandma "Domie" Domitilia Garcia.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Jarod Rael, Justin Garcia, Christopher Neal, Jacob Sanchez, Benito Rael IV, and Godson Michael Martinez
Funeral services are Rosary Monday July 22 at 7:00 PM at St Anne's Church with Mass of the resurrection on Tuesday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. Closed casket services with military honors.
