Bill Pfender Obituary
Bill Pfender lived a full life starting September 15, 1920, in Chicago, IL, and ending April 8, 2014, in the city he loved, San Diego, CA.
A radioman during World War II, he continued his career in communications at WTMJ in Milwaukee before settling in San Diego and retiring from Convair/General Dynamics after 30 years. Coming from that generation of pocket protector wearers, Bill the Engineer did not know of anything that he could not fix, create, or modify.
Fun-loving, personable, and a sports lover, he kept game statistics for the USD Basketball team and graduated to tracking stats for the Don Coryell era Chargers for games at the Murph. He enjoyed playing tennis through his advanced years and invigorating walks with Dorothy. Until a few years ago he was an active member of San Rafael's Men's Club.
Bill is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy; sister, Margaret; sons, Bill Jr. and Tom; daughters, Jeanette and Ginny; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Bob, and daughter, Diane.
