JR passed away October 21, 2012, in Big Bear, CA. He was born April 8, 1952, in Washington, D.C., and grew up in nearby Bowie, MD, eldest of seven children born to Clarence Sr. and Helena. He was a star Center for his Bowie H.S. "Bulldog's" basketball team and was known as "The Bulldog Giant". He was being scouted by several colleges when, instead, he married his high school sweetheart, Denise Chittams.|
Thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps in 1971. In 1973, JR was blessed with his son, Rodney. After two tours in Germany, he returned stateside and was stationed in Colorado Springs where he divorced. He later met and married Tammee Spencer. JR left the Army and they moved to San Diego where, in 1979, he was blessed with his daughter, Tiffany. In 1989, he was divorced. JR worked in security for many years. Several years after moving to Poway, CA, with his best friend, Jim Young, he met Adrienne Henson in 1993. In 1997 they were married and he became a loving stepfather to her son, Alex.
In 2003 JR and Adrienne moved to Big Bear Lake, CA, where he started a delivery service. JR and Adrienne spent the next nine years, before his untimely death from a heart attack, enjoying their beautiful mountain community with wonderful, loving friends.
JR and Adrienne were living the dream they had always spoken of…The Mountains.
Adrienne thanks the community of Poway for being great in the time that they lived there, especially the gang at senior bingo.
JR is survived by his wife and best friend of 15 years, Adrienne; his siblings, Julius, Phyllis, Michael, Joann, Terry and Stephanie; son, Rodney of Odenton, MD; daughter, Tiffany and her loving wife, Kristina, of San Diego, CA; stepson, Alex Henson of the U.S. Coast Guard; grandchildren, Anthony, Rodney Jr., Dimitri, twin girls, Aja and Alexis, Jolee, Xander and Charissa; many beautiful nephews and nieces; and loving mother-in law, Martha Martin.
