Cressie Mildred Rogers Williams Obituary
Cressie Williams, 101, of Poway, California, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, from natural causes. She was born January 4, 1911, in Oakland, California, to Annie Vernessa Johnson and Thomas Fuller Rogers. She was raised in Berkeley, California, with her six siblings.
She married Marion Dale Williams of Hayward, California, in June of 1930. They moved from California to Denver, Colorado, where they made their home until Dale passed away in 1975. Cressie remained a widow the rest of her life and stayed in Colorado until September of 2008 when she moved to Poway, California, to live with her granddaughter, Terri Jeannette Williams (Wayne) Sorensen and her family.
Cressie is survived by her son, Dale Williams of Sierra Vista, Arizona; daughter, Barbara Barkus of Jacksonville, North Carolina; sisters, Winifred Heath of San Jose and Lois Hinkson of Sacramento; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren who will all miss her very much. She is preceded in death by her husband, M. Dale Williams; her brothers, Ivan and James Rogers; and her sisters, Cleone Libby and Thelma Reno.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Poway. Burial will be at the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, near her husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seniors Helping Our Kids where Cressie volunteered with the Oasis Tutoring Program, tutoring elementary children at Pomerado Elementary in Poway until January of this year. Donations may be sent in her name to benefit this program to 16965 Cloudcroft Dr., Poway, CA 92064.
Cressie's faith inspired us and her humor made us laugh. She will be greatly missed.
