Frank W. England Obituary
Frank Wesson England died peacefully on September 4, 2012, in San Diego, CA, formerly of Cohasset, MA, Lake George, NY and Las Vegas, NV.
Frank was born on May 12, 1920, in Ft. Benning, GA, the third son of Col. George Washington England and Dorothea Young England. He attended high school at Mohawk Country Day School and had varsity lettering in many sports, football (Quarterback and Captain), basketball, tennis and lacrosse, a life-long love. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1947. Frank refereed lacrosse at college and high school levels for over 30 years.
He served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946, under General Clark and General Patton. For the next 34 years, Frank served in the Army Reserves. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1980 as a Colonel. Gov. Frank Sargent appointed him a Brigadier General in Massachusetts National Guard.
Frank embarked on a career as insurance executive. He was the Bond Manager of Aetna Insurance. In 1984, Frank retired from Aetna. He joined Carlin Insurance as Vice-President of Surety and remained an active MA Insurance Broker with clients until his death.
On January 20, 1951, Frank married Kathleen (Kay) VanDenHouten.
Frank loved politics and political discussions. He served in volunteer capacities in numerous campaigns and was elected to the Cohasset (MA) School Committee. Frank was then elected to the Cohasset Board of Selectmen.
Frank is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen V. England; daughters, Deborah (Glen) Zepnick, Kathleen England, Terese (Christopher) Duggan and Janet England; granddaughters, Andrea Zepnick (Justin) Laird, Valerie Zepnick, and Alexandra, Kara and Maura Duggan; great-grandsons, Trevor and Reid Laird; and many other relatives.
The family would be honored by your presence at any of the following celebrations of Frank's life: Visitation on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, 5:00-7:00pm and Words of Remembrance 7-8pm at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, 10:00am at St. Gabriel's Church, Poway, CA.
Frank will be buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, on December 13, 2012.
