Dick Mears, 82, passed away at his Rancho Bernardo home on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Dick was born on March 17, 1930, in Orange, NJ. He graduated from Garden City High School in New York.

Mr. Mears worked for American Airlines as a crew planner for more than 48 years before his retirement in 1992. Dick was a member of San Rafael Catholic Church, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, RSVP, and the Knights of Columbus San Rafael Parish Council 9710 where he was a 4th Degree Knight. Dick also volunteered at the Poway Performing Arts Center and served coffee and donuts at Sunday Mass.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Lillian; sons, Jeffrey (Brooke) Mears and Keith (Susan) Mears; and grandchildren, Rebecca Mears, Ryan Mears and Jennifer Mears. He was preceded in death by son, Douglas Mears.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary in Escondido with the Rosary at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012, at San Rafael Catholic Church in Rancho Bernardo with the Committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Dick's name to the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre in c/o San Rafael Catholic Church.
