Virginia S. Greer, 97, of Liberty, PA, and formerly of Rose Valley, PA, died peacefully on the evening of March 7, 2013, in San Diego, CA, surrounded by her family.|
She was married to George F. Greer at St. Peters By-the-Sea in Cape May Point, NJ. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage before his death on September 3, 2003.
Virginia is survived by her loving children, Barbara G. Warden and her husband, Richard, of San Diego, CA, George F. Greer, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Temecula, CA, Charlotte G. Goldsmith of Liberty, PA, and Peter C. Greer and his wife, Mandy, of Thousand Oaks, CA; her eight caring grandchildren, Douglas Warden, Gregory Warden, Breanne Goldsmith, Molly Goldsmith, Amy Stapleton, Katie Dahm, Noah Greer, Ginny Greer; and her seven great-grandchildren.
Born in Lebanon, PA, she was the only surviving child of Peter and Hilda (Petersen) Skopp. Virginia grew up in the Philadelphia area and graduated from Germantown High School in 1933, then earned a degree in Journalism from the Charles Morris Price School of Advertising and Journalism. She was an office manager at Dun and Bradstreet before her marriage. Later, she was an executive assistant to the head of the Psychology Department at Swarthmore College.
She volunteered for the Red Cross for many years and was active in Wallingford Presbyterian Church, St. Peters By-the-Sea, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and the Rose Valley Community. She was a member of the Helen Kate Furness Library Board and the Rose Valley Swimming Pool Board.
Virginia lead a full life traveling throughout Europe and the Americas with her husband, George, gathering new friends of all ages and interests along the way. The importance of friends and family were paramount to her as she continuously communicated with family, old and new friends via personal notes, emails and phone calls daily.
