Raven Rud Obituary
RAPID CITY | Raven Ashley Rud, 14, passed away Monday, August 27, 2012, at her residence due to complications of metastatic brain cancer.
Raven was born Dec. 21, 1997, in Rapid City to John and Maria Rud. She attended grade school in Gainesville, FL, from kindergarten to fifth grade. The family moved back to Rapid City and she attended sixth grade at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Elementary and seventh and eighth grade at Southwest Middle School. Raven was getting ready to attend her freshmen year of high school at St. Thomas More High School.
She enjoyed playing the piano and participating in multiple sports. Raven's real joy was technology, especially Facebook, and hanging out with her brothers and friends. Her special smile, vivacious personality and inspirational attitude will be remembered by all.
Survivors include her parents, John and Maria Rud, Rapid City; brothers, Hunter and Riley Rud, Rapid City; paternal grandparents, James and Eunice Rud, Rapid City; maternal grandparents, Antonio and Ondina Tillan, Miami, FL; uncles, Dan (Brenda) Rud, Rapid City, and Jose (Melanie) Tillan, Miami, FL; aunt, Rosie (Chris) Pruitt, Jacksonville, FL; and numerous cousins.
The family asks that you honor their wishes for Raven as they will be conducting private family services for her at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Raven's honor. If you would like to donate please send cards to Kirk Funeral Home, 1051 East Minnesota St., Rapid City, SD 57701.
The family would like to thank the community of Rapid City; Southwest Middle School administration and faculty; St. Thomas More High School; The Rapid City Regional Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine; Cancer Institute; Infusion Center; Department of Radiology; and nurses/staff on the pediatric floor of the hospital; and the employees of Black Hills Pediatrics. Special thanks to the faculty and staff of the University of Minnesota Health Sciences Center and the Children's Hospital of Minneapolis.

The longer I am a doctor and as the years pass; the more I realize how little I know and how helpless I can be. I was once told that "When God says it's time to put his hands on someone it is our time to take our hands off". There is no doubt that Raven is in God's hands now. The Rud family is heavily in my thoughts and prayers.

To Raven's family, you have had the honor of having the most brave person in your life who has been able to touch the lives of many people. I met her at a rally at southwest. The memories that I share with Raven,: science fair, sleepovers, and classes... Every time she was there, she brought in this fun, bright personality. Then, when she left, although it was sad, I know that she went to a better place. God Bless You Rud family. You will always be in my prayers.
