Lola Mae Divich

REDFIELD - Lola Mae Divich, 90, of Redfield, SD, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Lakeside Assisted Living Center in Redfield, SD. Her funeral will be Monday, October 25, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield, SD. Reverend J. Edwin Coates will officiate. Burial will be in the Doland Cemetery near Doland, SD after a time for fellowship following the services at the church. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Lola was born December 2, 1913 near Bismarck, ND to Oscar and Anna Mae (Hassa) Walworth. She attended rural schools. She moved to Doland in May of 1930 where she worked as a housekeeper. Lola married Chris Divich, a local farmer, on September 24, 1930 and four children were born to that union. The Divichs started a Red Owl Grocery Store in Doland in 1938. In 1945, the couple built a new much larger store which they operated until 1955 when they retired due to Chris' health. Chris died in 1964 and Lola moved to Huron where she worked as a baby sitter for several families. Lola moved to the Village Apartments in Redfield in 1989 and resided there until January 2001 when she moved to Lakeside Assisted Living. She enjoyed fishing, knitting, crocheting, needlework and writing letters. She knitted many caps for the newborns at the Huron Hospital as well as baby layettes and Christmas stockings. Lola is survived by her children: Delores (Walt) Johnson of Spearfish, SD; Chris (Sue) Divich of San Antonio, TX; Duane (Phyllis) Divich of San Antonio, TX; and Dick (Jeane) Divich of Rapid City, SD. She is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chris, brother Woodrow Walworth and sister Edna Blaskowski.
