James Rodger Drainer

1940 - 2016

James Rodger Drainer, age 76, of Vandalia, passed away early Monday evening, December 12, 2016 at his home in Vandalia.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Waters Funeral Chapel.
A Service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Officiating will be Father Porterfield.
Music will be provided by the church choir.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Jim Jungers, Kevin Griggs, Bill Hogue, Randy Lewis, Don Struse, and Don Ingram.
James Rodger Drainer was born on July 23, 1940 in Spencersburg, Missouri; the son of Victor Charles and Hazel (Hetzel) Drainer.
He married Ione J. Fielder in Bowling Green on June 4, 1967; she preceded him in death on November 8, 2008.
Jim grew up and attended schools in the Vandalia area.
He worked at the International Shoe Company in Vandalia before entering the U.S. Navy in 1962 and served three years active duty.
Upon returning from the service, Jim worked at CE Refractories in Farber until the plant closed. He then worked for at A.B. Chance as a maintenance supervisor, retiring in 2003.
Jim enjoyed Cardinal baseball, Mizzou football and basketball.
Survivors include two daughters, Brinda L. and Gene Pargeon, of Vandalia; Tess I. and Ron Hendrix, of Vandalia; one brother, John and Nina Drainer, of Jefferson City; one sister, Ruth Ann and husband Mel Jones, of Jefferson City; two grandchildren, Travis Hendrix, of Vandalia and Sean Lovelace, of Jefferson City; and one great-grandson, Zach Lovelace.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Ione; two brothers, Norman and Charles Drainer; and one grandson, Christopher Lovelace.
