Edward S. Graczyk, 91, of Reading died of natural causes during the morning hours of Monday June 17, 2013 at the Berkshire Center, Exeter Twp, where he resided since May 22, 2013.
Mr. Graczyk was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Helen (Nowotarski) Graczyk, on January 14, 2011.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Adam and Pauline (Pawelski) Graczyk.
Mr. Graczyk is survived by his daughter, Gloria A. (Graczyk), wife of Robert M. Schellhammer of Reading; and his son, Edward J., husband of Nancy Graczyk of West Lawn. Other survivors include his four grandchildren, Lori Grim, Robert R. Schellhammer, Kristen Schittler and Tracy Brown. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Mr. Gra-czyk was predeceased by his sister, Anna, and his brothers, Bernie and Adam.
Mr. Graczyk was a graduate of Reading High School and served his country in the United States Navy, during World War II.
He was employed by the city of Reading police force, retiring as a lieutenant in 1972. He was then employed for 12 years as chief of security at GPU, until retiring.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Reading. Mr. Graczyk was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He loved watching the Phillies and golf. He will be sadly missed.
Relatives and friends may extend their sympathy and respects to the Graczyk family on Friday June 21, 2013 from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at the Kopicki-Bradley Funeral Home, Inc. 239 South Ninth Street Reading 19602. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church 250 South 12th Street, Reading 19602. Interment with military honors will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Twp.
