Flamm, Marie (Natole) - Reading  
Marie T. Flamm, 81, formerly of St. Lawrence, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015, in the Keystone Villa at Douglassville. She was the widow of Joseph E. Flamm, who passed away October 19, 2011. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Stephania (Gil) Natole. She was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C. and the Red Hat Society. Marie was a clerk for the former Zipf's Candies in Reading for 25 years. She is survived by: two sons, Joseph S. Flamm of St. Lawrence and David M. Flamm, husband of Sherry L. of Exeter Township; two daughters, Jolene M., wife of Brenna J. Corbit of Mount Penn and Lisa M. Flamm of St. Lawrence; one granddaughter, Lauren N. Flamm and one great-grandson, Ogden F. Rahn; one brother, Joseph Natole, husband of Cookie of Reading and one sister, Barbara, wife of Robert McCarthy of Exeter Township. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas and sister, Gerry. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave., Mt. Franco, Rita (Ermentrout) - West Reading  
Rita M. (Ermentrout) Franco, 88, of Reading, PA, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her husband and daughters on April 12, 2015. She was born to the late George and Loretta (Henke) Ermentrout on August 26, 1926. After graduation from Central Catholic High School in 1944 she attended St. Joseph's Nursing School, with subsequent graduation in 1947. She married the love of her life, Tom, on April 15,1950. Her true passions in life were fulfilled in her roles as loving wife, exemplary mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Her love of life and deep faith were an inspiration to all who knew her. Her family and friends' fondest memories will be of time spent with her at her kitchen table, talking and laughing over a cup of coffee. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Tom, and her five daughters: Cindy (Javier) Simons of Melbourne, FL; Patty (Jake) Jacoby of Hershey, PA; Beth (Jerry) Simcik of Reading, PA; Barb (Jim) Hudson of Bronxville, NY; Kathy Franco of LaGrange, IL; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Tom. She is also survived by her sister, Loretta (Sue) Chelius; brother, John (Jack) Ermentrout; and predeceased by her sister, Margaret (Peg) Horrigan, and brothers, Fredrick (Fred) Ermentrout, and George (Red) Ermentrout. A visitation will be held Friday, April 17, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 18 at 11 a.m. in St. Catharine of Siena Church, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Exeter Twp. Fritz Sr., William - Lancaster  
William J. Fritz Sr., 77, of Reading, PA died April 3, 2015, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late William B. Fritz and Jennie (Gebhart) Fritz. Bill graduated from Governor Mifflin High School and Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mechanical design/drafting. Bill worked for Birdsboro Steel and various other firms as an engineer/consultant. He was the holder of several patents in the steel industry. He liked hunting, nature and helping others in need. Surviving are two sons, William J. Fritz Jr., Temple and Kevin Fritz, husband of Amy (Richardson) Fritz, Bel Air, MD. Other survivors include his sister, Janet (Fritz) Griesemer, wife of Scot Griesemer and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by a brother, John Harold Fritz, his sisters: Arlene (Fritz) Essig, wife of Robert; Betty Jane (Fritz) Castle, wife of Francis; D. Fry, Gladys (Schaeffer) - Reading  
Gladys T. "Dolly" Fry, 76, of Alsace Township, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015, in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She was the widow of Preston H. "Slim" Fry, who passed away November 4, 2000. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Henry M. and Fern E. (Rabold) Schaeffer. Dolly was a graduate of Mount Penn High School in 1956 and was a member of Zion-Spies Lutheran Church, Alsace Township. She also served as the past president of the Lower Alsace Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, past president of the Penn Coachmen Association and the trip coordinator for the Golden Seniors of Zion Spies Lutheran Church. Dolly was the manager for M.J. Earl, Inc. and then the office manager for Hafer Equipment Petroleum for many years until her retirement. She is survived by: one son, Jeffrey S. Fry, at home; one sister, Shirley M., wife of Randall W. Mohn Sr. of Reading; nephew, Randall W. Mohn Jr., husband of Page Mohn of Birdsboro and one grand-nephew, R.J. Mohn III. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Alice Schaeffer. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2015, with funeral services being held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015, in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Ave., Mt. Gassert, Phyllis (Cohen) - West Reading  
Phyllis Gassert, 88, of West Reading, passed peacefully in her residence on February 23, 2015. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Lee F. Gassert. She was predeceased by her parents, Barnett and Sarah (Rich) Cohen; a brother, Harry Cohen; a sister, Fay Bond; and a nephew, Michael Bond, all from England. Phyllis was a 1941 graduate of Dalston Central High School, England. She was born in London, England, and met Lee when he was stationed in Paris during WWII. They married in 1946. As a war bride, she came to the United States before the end of the war, and lived with her new relatives until Lee arrived home. She became a United States Citizen in the 1950s and worked at Talbot Knitting Mills, retiring in 1958 to raise her children. She was one of the founding members and one-time President of the Reading Redcoats, a grass-roots organization that was formed by other English war brides in the area. Many still gather for luncheons every couple of months. She was a caring and giving person who taught her family the importance of not judging others and to be kind to people. She learned to make traditional Pennsylvania Dutch meals early on. She also hosted and cooked the holiday dinners for her family into her 80s. She is also survived by her daughter, Susie Olson Dahms, and her husband, Doug of Oley; her son, Barry Gassert, Indonesia; her grandson, Jesse Olson and girlfriend, Danielle; her granddaughter, Stephanie Bowling and her husband, Wilson, from California; and her granddaughter, Kristin Murphy from Horsham. She had five great-grandchildren: Patrick, Austin, Ashtyn, Jeremy and Travis. Also surviving is a nephew, Martin Bond; and a niece, Susan Bond, both from England; two great-nephews, Philip Bond and his wife, Belinda, and daughter, Grace from Adalaide; and Stefan Bond and his wife, Lynette, and daughter, Daisy from Dubai; two nephews, Maynard Koch and his wife, Elaine; John Koch and his wife, Cheryl; and two nieces, Judy Hartman and Nancy Schaeffer, all local. She was very close with her extended family: Karen O'Brien and husband, Don of Wyomissing; Kent Olson and his wife, Carol Ann, and daughter, Kayla of Kempton; Andy O'Brien and his wife, Christine, from Vermont; Matt O'Brien and his wife, Jennifer, and son, Wyatt of Exeter; and Kate O'Brien from Philadelphia. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 19, at 2:00 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA, 19611. Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Friends and family are invited after the services to Wyomissing Family Restaurant for a celebration of Phyllis' life. Gilbert, Ardene (True) - Hamburg  
Ardene M. Gilbert, 87, of Shoemakersville died Friday evening, April 10, 2015, in Hearthstone at Maidencreek. She was the widow of Earl F. Gilbert, who died April 5, 2010. Ardene was born in Bremen, Kansas on August 26, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Henry W. and Marie A. (Rengstorf) True She was employed at Globe Underwear, Shoemakersville as a machine operator, retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville. One daughter, Gayle, wife of James Hepner, Shoemakersville; two granddaughters, Jennifer Hepner, Wyomissing and Kristy, wife of Christopher Mitchell, Royersford, survive Ardene. A brother, Harold H. True, predeceased her. A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 16th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Church, 5th & Franklin Streets, Shoemakersville, Pa. Glembocki, Elizabeth (Matuszak) - West Reading  
Elizabeth (Matuszak) Glembocki, 96, passed Tuesday, April 7, 2015, surrounded by loving family. Born in Reading, PA on May 19, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anastasia (Poziemski) Matuszak. Elizabeth and her husband of 71 years founded Paragon Optical Company in 1972, with Elizabeth serving as Secretary-Treasurer until her retirement in 1996. Together, they formulated plans for the expansion and diversification of Precision Optics. In the early days, Elizabeth was active in volunteer work as a Den Mother in Boy Scouts; she also belonged to Central Catholic Mothers Club, where she organized an art class for mothers. She was active in League of Women Voters, Catholic Women's Club, Community Chest Drive and United Heart Fund. She also volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital, Reading Hospital and Berks Heim. Lastly, Elizabeth obtained the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for Berks Heim. Elizabeth loved music and travel. She played the piano, the organ, accordion, mandolin and the ukulele, all by ear. She traveled to Poland, Japan, Hawaii, Germany, England, Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and the Caribbean. The family always joked that mom's bags were always packed. Elizabeth's final journey was to join Pop on his birthday, April 7. She is survived by daughters, Claire McVaugh, Reading, and Patricia Hohl, Wyomissing and son, Ted Glembocki, Robesonia. There are 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Thaddeus Glembocki, who died October 1, 2008, as well as four brothers and six sisters. She is survived by sister, Mary Kozlowski of Manor Care, Sinking Spring and a brother, Louis. Services will be held Monday, April 13, at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, with entombment to follow in Gethsemane Mausoleum. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Doris P. Grube, 90, of McKeansburg, Pa., died Friday, April 10th, at Orwigsburg Center - Genesis Healthcare, Orwigsburg, Pa. Doris was born in Hamburg, Pa. on November 1, 1924, a daughter of the late Mamie M. (Schaeffer) Clay and Oscar E. Clay. She was the widow of Lloyd D. Grube She attended Orwigsburg School and graduated from Auburn High School. She was a member of Christ Church McKeansburg, and was employed as a Machine Operator at the former Leiningers Knitting Mill Orwigsburg for over 30 years and retired in 1983. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Travis James Grube; brothers, Harold and Claude Clay; and a sister, Leona Smith. Doris is survived by a daughter, Diana L., wife of Brian Folk; five sons: Larry K., husband of Lydia Grube; Martin D., husband of Connie Grube; Kenneth G. Grube, Life Partner, Karen Moore; Vernon D., husband of Mary Jo Grube; Randy T., husband of Tina Grube; 2 sisters, Ruth, widow of Robert Breon and Marion, widow of Leon Reager; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Religious Services will be held at Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc., Orwigsburg at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14th, with Rev. Sunny L. Stock officiating. Hahn, Judith - Reading  
Judith N. Hahn, 71, of Wyomissing, passed away on April 10, 2015, at her residence. She was born in Reading on March 8, 1944, the daughter of the late Myles C. and Fern J. (Deysher) Hahn. Judith was a 1962 graduate of Reading High School. She was employed as a secretary at Gilbert and Associates for 15 years and most recently at Met-Ed. Judith was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Reading, where she served on the Church Council, on the Administrative Team, on St. Luke's WELCA board, and was a member of the Rowdy Seniors group. She was a member of the Berks County Historical Society and enjoyed researching her family's genealogy. She also enjoyed playing pinochle with her card club for 47 years. She is survived by her brother, Eugene W. Hahn, husband of Vickie of Walnut Creek, Calif.; by her niece, Mimi Victoria Zobairi, Esq.; and by her nephew, Josuf Zobairi, husband of Lauren. A service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church chapel, 449 N. 9th St., Reading, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Elmer Reinhold, officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the chapel from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. The interment will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Judith may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
