Edward McCann Jr.


Edward "Ned" Joseph McCann Jr., 82, Reading, passed away at home on Thursday, August 30, 2018. He was the loving husband of the late Rosemarie (Izzo) McCann.

Born in Reading on February 27, 1936,

Edward was the last remaining child of the late Edward J. Sr. and Dora (Gruber) McCann.

Edward was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a 1953 graduate of

Central Catholic High School. He was also a graduate of Lehigh University with graduate work at Pennsylvania State University.

Edward was an avid golfer. He enjoyed watching baseball games as well as listening to classical jazz.

In 1957, Edward joined the U.S. Army and served 2 years earning the Good Conduct Medal before serving in the Army Reserves.

Returning to Berks Co. after his time in the military,

Edward served as the director of Workforce Development and chief operating officer for the Berks Co. Workforce

Investment Board. He was a charter member of the

National Association of Workforce Development Professionals, served on their Board of Directors and chairman of the Board. In addition, he was active in local, state and national organizations such as the PA Workforce Development

Association, the Greater Reading Economic Development Professionals, the Berks Advisory Board for the Ben Franklin Technology Partnership and the Government Affairs

Committee of the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Surviving are three children: Michael A. Palladino, of Philadelphia; Mark S. Palladino and his wife, Mary, of Pottstown; and Gina M. (Palladino) Skiscim and her husband, Stephen J., of Petersburg, N.J; two grandchildren, Kathryn "Kate" Palladino and Stephen P. Skiscim and

numerous friends professionally and socially.

In addition to his parents, Edward is predeceased by a brother, John "Jack" McCann; and four sisters: Mary Ellen "Molly" McCann, Margaret Theresa "Peggy" McCann, Ann Louise "Nancy" (McCann) Peskin and Catherine Elizabeth "Kitty" McCann.

A celebration of the life of Edward will be private at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted with Theo C. Auman
