Herminio S. Alegado, 88, of Heidelberg Township, passed away October 18, 2013 at 3:41 p.m. in Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.
He was the husband of the late Gloria Ferrer-Alegado, who passed away March 7, 2007. Born in San Antonio Zambales, Philippines, he was the son of the late Bonifacio Alegado and Maria Sahagun.
Mr. Alegado served in the United States Navy for 20 years serving at the end of World War II and Vietnam, attaining the rank of PO1. Prior to his retirement from the United States Navy in 1965, he was a Naval Chef at the Pentagon and one of his favorite clients was Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara.
After retirement, he went back to school and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Magsaysay Memorial College in the Philippines. He was an active member of the Cursillo Community and Holy Name Society of Jesus in Holy Infant Parish in the Philippines. In later life, he was a member of the Seniors Group at his current parish, St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Reading, Pa.
Mr. Alegado is survived by his daughters: Annabelle F. Alegado of Wernersville,
Gina A. Gonzales (wife of Jake Gonzales) of Heidelberg Township, Mary Jane A. Montenegro (wife of Ramon Montenegro) of Turlock, CA and Nida A. Kase (wife of Lt. Col. Eric L. Kase, USAF) of South Hadley, Massachussetts. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jesmin, Jesigine, and Gian Gonzales; Jaymon and Randel Montenegro. Also surviving is his brother Juanito Alegado and his sister Gloria S. Alegado, both in the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Encarnacion and Sophia, and his brother, Josefino.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608 on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. by Reverend Kevin Bobbin. Entombment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home (3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring), Friday, October 25, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9-9:45 a.m.
