He was employed as a social worker for a number of years before enrolling in graduate school at Boston College, where he earned a Ph.D. in economics. He taught at Kenyon College for three years before returning to Pennsylvania, where he started a boarding kennel, Creature Comforts, in Centermoreland with his wife, Susan.
After the birth of his children, David and Jessie, he and his family moved to Bryn Mawr, PA, where they lived for 13 years. Following Jessie's high school graduation, he and Susan moved to a farm north of Reading, PA, where he spent his last years working in his woods, the occupation he enjoyed most.
David is survived by his wife, Susan; children David of Baltimore and Jessie, a student at Hobart and William Smith Colleges; his brother, William Hall of Bethesda, MD; his sister, Trish Hall of New York City; stepbrothers Frederick and Jonathan Valentine, both of Dallas, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
